Toyota Previa Tops The MotorEasy Reliability Index

Whilst Jaguar Land Rover models secure three out of ten places at the bottom of the rankings

The Toyota Previa has taken pole position in the MotorEasy Reliability Index, as of 31stAugust 2025, for its combined dependability and repair affordability, scoring 9.8 out of 10 overall.

The MotorEasy Reliability Index scores are calculated using real-world, real-time, claims data and features 341 models across 45 makes*. By evaluating average repair costs and repair frequency, it provides an accurate and comprehensive picture of each model's dependability.

Two hybrid cars now feature in the MotorEasy top ten. The Lexus CT sits in 6th position, whilst the Toyota C-HR comes in 8th.  While both score 9.7 out of 10 overall, the Lexus CT ranks slightly higher because of its lower average cost of repair.

The appearance of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) in the top ten MotorEasy reliability and repair affordability analysis, by make and model, reflects the UK’s shifting car parc and motorists’ appetite for greener mobility solutions.  Although an all-electric vehicle (BEV) has yet to make an entry into the MotorEasy Reliability Index top ten, the Nissan Leaf is making headway, now ranked 14th with an overall score of 9.6. In fact, the Nissan Leaf is currently Nissan’s best performing vehicle in the MotorEasy rankings.

Taking the wooden spoon, is the Tesla Model X which sits at the very bottom of the MotorEasy Reliability Index, because of its average number of repair claims.  Whilst Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has made significant strides to overcome vehicle theft issues, dependability remains a cause for concern. Scores for three JLR models place them in the bottom ten - the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar and Land Rover Discovery. Models from premium brands Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche join Tesla and JLR at the bottom. However, all the bottom ten share same the overall score of 1 out of 10.

Comments Duncan McClure Fisher, CEO of Intelligent Motoring and the founder of MotorEasy, “Our Reliability Index evolves constantly as newer makes and models move beyond their manufacturer warranties and faults start to emerge. With AFVs making up nearly 42% of new car registrations last year**, it’s no surprise we’re seeing them rise through our rankings - a trend we expect to accelerate rapidly.

“Take Tesla as a case in point. Just a few years ago, faults were a rarity across our repair network. Today, however, Tesla ranks last out of 45 manufacturers for frequency of repairs and only avoids the bottom spot overall because brands like Bentley and Land Rover carry such high relative repair costs.”

*The MotorEasy latest data analysis includes vehicles between two and 15 years old and represents more than 200,000 years’ worth of warranty claims and repair records.
